��ݮ��Ƶ research team had one week to design and deliver a complex handlebar connector that helps athletes stay in the optimal position for maintaining speed.

A tight timeline was only fitting when engineers at the University of ��ݮ��Ƶ took on a special project for the Canadian track cycling team headed to the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Canada’s track cyclists are making their final preparations for competition at the Rio Olympic Velodrome, and those preparations could include adding a part developed at the University of ��ݮ��Ƶ to their bikes.

��ݮ��Ƶ engineering professor John McPhee says he received a phone call last month from the Canadian Sports Institute, which had a bit of an unusual request.

“They needed some new parts designed and prototyped,” he said in an interview. []

SYDE Master's student, Nippun Goyal, recently co-designed a "space app" that won the "Most Inspirational" prize at a NASA global design challenge - beating out 1200 teams. As part of the prize, he and his teammates are invited to spend 4-days at an upcoming shuttle, where they will get a back-stage pass with the astronauts.

Engineering students Motaz Al-Ashhab , Anuja Chokshi, Astor Wong, and Eric Wong won 2nd place (plus the bonus prize!) at the Innovative Designs for Accessibility (IDeA)  student competition, held at the OCE Discovery Conference earlier this week. 

A systems design engineering professor and team of graduate students are the recipients of two Magna Cum Laude awards presented at the held in Toronto at the end of March.
