A long-standing collaboration between the University of À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµâ€™s Earth Sciences Museum and the Earth and Environmental Sciences department involves a trip to Northern Ontario to the Whitefish River First Nations land. Among them was Liam Blaquiere, who shared his love for science with elementary students from JK to grade six at the Shawanosowe School.Â
Along with three other colleagues from across the University, Brenda Lee, continuing lecturer in the Department of Physics & Astronomy, has been awarded the 2024 Distinguished Teaching Award (DTA) from the Centre for Teaching Excellence on campus.Â
Earth and Environmental Sciences professor David Rudolph has been recognized with an Excellence in Graduate Supervision Award, along with two other faculty members from the Faculty of Engineering and Mathematics. Â
Thanks to the donors of the Chemistry Program Activation Fund, students now have access to a widely applicable instrument, Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR), to study DNA binding.
Josh Crone, an undergraduate lab development specialist at the University of À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ, recently scored a win in the 2023 Gentec-EO Laser Lab Awards. This global competition is dedicated to enhancing optics labs in educational institutions, ensuring students have access to industry-leading measurement instruments. Collaborating with Nobel Laureate Donna Strickland, Crone paved the way for the win by developing a compelling narrative on how this equipment would benefit physics education at À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ.
Dr. Keith Delaney, a continuing lecturer in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, has been named a recipient of the 2023 Distinguished Teaching Award. The Centre for Teaching Excellence made the announcement last week. This is a career award and can only be received once.Â
Abigale O'Reilly has received the 2023 Amit and Meena Chakma Award for Exceptional Teaching by a Student.
Abigale is an undergraduate student in the Department of Chemistry, recognized by students and faculty members for her enthusiasm, capability to create a supportive environment, and dedication to teaching.Â
