Congratulations to Nahyan Rana – PhD student Nahyan Rana (working under the supervision of Professor Steve Evans in the Department of Earth & Environmental Sciences) has been awarded the 2022 Gary Salmon Memorial Scholarship of the Canadian Dam Association (CDA).

°Õ³ó±ðÌýAmit & Meena Chakma Awards for Exceptional Teaching by a Student recognize up to four students from across the University of À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ for excellence in teaching of all kinds (e.g., teaching assistant, laboratory demonstrator, sessional lecturer) by registered students.

Pharmaceutical drugs often take advantage of a specific shape in order to bind to the biological target. Some molecules, however, can exist with two versions that are mirror images of each other, similar to a left-handed and right-handed pair of gloves. In the body, often only one of the two molecules is an active pharmaceutical drug due to the difference in shape.

Eugenia Dadzie, a master’s student from the Department of Biology, won first place in Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs (GSPA)’s GRADflix showcase for her video , describing her research into finding microbes that can break down plastics in the environment.

With only 60 seconds at their disposal, competitors create videos, moving slideshows or animation, in order to tell us why their research is important!

For Michael Houston, PhD ’93, BSc ’87, the University of À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ is more than his alma mater. For a good chunk of his youth, the campus is where he called home.
