WCA public lecture: Physics at the End of the Universe

Join the ݮƵ Centre for Astrophysics for a public lecture (offered in-person and online) as Dr. Katie Mack explores "Physics at the End of the Universe": The Big Bang theory tells the story of the beginning of the Universe, our cosmic home for the last 13.8 billion years. But how does the story end? I’ll share what modern astrophysics tells us about the ultimate fate of the cosmos, and what the catastrophic destruction of all reality would look like to anyone still around to see it.

"War in Life, Life in War" exhibit by Ukrainian students

We would like to cordially invite you to an exhibition by Ukrainian students “War in life, life in war” hosted by Science Museums and Galleries from the Faculty of Science. On Wednesday, October 5th from 12:30-1:30 pm, Ukrainian students will attend the exhibit in the STC atrium to tell us stories about the resilience and resistance of Ukrainian people, show pictures from their hometowns and home universities, and share their first-hand experiences with the war being waged on their country by Russia. Coffee and Ukrainian treats will be provided.

Gender Discrimination in Academia Past to Present: Conversation with Anne Dagg

On November 21st, we are excited to host Anne Dagg, her daughter, and the exhibit creator for an informal discussion about Anne's experiences, the meaning behind the current exhibit pieces and poems in STC, and action we can take for a better future for Science. Join us at 4:00pm atSTC 2001 (the study space on the 2nd floor) for hot drinks and pastries and an insightful chat. This is a free event and does not require registration.

PhysiX: Girls Matter 2022

The Department of Physics and Astronomyis hosting students in Grades 7 and 8 on campus in-person on November 26th for free hands-on activity workshops, inspiring talks, and a panel discussion, to encourage and engage female and non-binary studentstoexplorephysics. This event is free, and participants are expected to stay for the whole event. Registration is now closed for the 2022 event.
