Outrageous to courageous: Buried history in Kitchener:

Grey sign with white lettering of Kitchener Mount Hope Cemetery.

This promises to be an eye-opening journey through Mount Hope Cemetery, where we鈥檒l uncover fascinating stories from our past on Friday, June 13 at 10 a.m. Discover the most outrageous mayor of Berlin/Kitchener, learn how a workplace accident launched J.M. Schneider into the meat business, and hear about early Black freedom seekers who settled in Queen鈥檚 Bush before moving to Berlin. We'll also explore the tale of a KCI teacher who founded North America's first football (soccer) association, marvel at a monument intricately carved to resemble its honouree, and celebrate how Miss Ontario 1910, Hilda Rumpel, played a key role in bringing hydroelectricity to Berlin/Kitchener. And there鈥檚 so much more to uncover! Don鈥檛 miss this chance for a walk back in time with our guide,
Wayne Miedema of Stroll Walking Tours.

Watch the UWRA Events Calendar for all events and activities taking place this summer season.

Member discounts!

This from a UWRA member: 鈥淏ecause we work in education, we can buy car and home insurance through OTIP.听 I did not know that so this year I called, and the quote was 50% cheaper than what I had been paying. Note that I am a CAA member, and the quote is with them. I thought you all might be interested in this and maybe our members as well.鈥

Remember that UWRA membership gives us full rights to CURAC鈥檚 benefits and discounts. One member switched to Johnson (CURAC's affinity partner) and it was 1/3 the cost. It pays to be a member of UWRA! There are other benefits and discounts available to us- check out the UWRA discount partners.
