Pure Mathematics PhD student Ruizhang Jin was one of the six students who won the 2019 Huawei Prize for Best Research Paper by a Mathematics Graduate Student. This award recognizes the impact of his paper,听 with a prize of $4,000.

Jin鈥檚 paper develops the model-theoretic notion of analysability and establishes criteria for when a canonical analysis exists. He then applies his methods to differential fields exhibiting phenomena that witness the richness of differential-algebraic geometry.

鈥淐onstructing examples in differentially closed fields is notoriously difficult,鈥 said Jin鈥檚 supervisor Rahim Moosa. 鈥淛in鈥檚 accomplishments in this regard are remarkable. This paper is an outstanding contribution to the interaction of logic with algebra and geometry.鈥

Jin was praised as having made an important contribution to the theory of coordinatization in general stable theories.

Written solely by Jin, the paper appeared in mathematical logic鈥檚 leading , and made up about a third of his PhD thesis, defended successfully earlier this year.

The 2019 Huawei Prize for Best Research Paper by a Mathematics Graduate Student would not be possible without the generous support from Huawei.
