Zero Waste Week | Opportunities | Virtual Events | Resources for Online Learning

Zero Waste Week: Home Edition

is an initiative run by UÀ¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ's Sustainability Office. From October 19-23, you will be encouraged to take the waste mason jar challenge to get a sense of how much waste you generate in one week. The Sustainability Office will also be sharing resources through their social media, such as:

  • Strategies for reducing food waste

  • Waste sorting guidelines (on campus and in À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ Region)

  • Specialty recycling programs and donation guidelines during COVID-19

  • Repairing and upcycling clothing and textile waste

  • And much more!

Volunteer Opportunity at The Canadian Sanctuary Network

The Canadian Sanctuary Network is seeking a volunteer to help us build our social media presence.
The Sanctuary Network is a group of about 10 individuals who work towards the fair treatment of refugees and support refused refugee claimants in Canada who face risk if returned. We are in the process of overhauling our website and have recently launched a Facebook page and Twitter account.
Your role would be to support our social media presence through re-tweeting, sharing relevant news items, and occasionally posting original content based on our current work (roughly 2 hours/week). You will be invited to participate in Network meetings (virtual at present), which gives you an opportunity to learn about current issues in refugee protection and sanctuary in Canada, but attendance is not required.
We ask for a commitment of at least one year to the position.

Call for Abstracts for University of À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ Virtual Conference on Student Mental Health Research

As part of UÀ¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ's Thrive Week, a will be held on November 5th, 2020. Before the conference, Thrive is requesting submission of abstracts to be presented at the conference. Presentations can be in the form of posters or oral presentations.

Global Insights Series: Global Resources: Scarcity, Sustainability and Security

Global Insights is a weekly live-streamed, moderated panel series which provides different national and regional perspectives on big questions currently facing researchers, policymakers and planners worldwide in light of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Global Insights feature experts from the (Canada), the (UK), the (USA), the (Ethiopia), the (Germany) and (Japan) – all leading institutions in the study of international affairs.

This week's edition, taking place on Thursday, October 8th from 11 AM-12 PM, will feature Andrea Collins, University of À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ/BSIA; Garrett Graddy-Lovelace, American University; and Tim Wegenast, University of Konstanz.

Impact of Social Sciences and Humanities Conference

The Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences will be partnering with the Network for Advancing & Evaluating the Societal Impact of Science (AESIS) on its upcoming event: , which will take place online from October 14 – 16, 2020.

Federation Vice-Chair Mike DeGagné will be speaking at a plenary session on SSH Research Impact in Global Crises on October 15, and another on Connecting Research with the Broader Community on October 16.ÌýThe chair of the Federation's Congress Advisory Committee on Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Decolonization, Malinda S. Smith, will also be speaking on October 15 on Structuring HSS Impact through Collaboration. Federation Board member Sandra Lapointe has played a key part in organizing the event.
