Now you too can talk Quantum!

Tuesday, May 3, 2016

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau can explain quantum science in just over 30 seconds. Can you? Soon you too will be able to learn and understand more about quantum information science and technology.

The Institute for Quantum Computing (IQC) at the University of 蓝莓视频 is delighted to announce QUANTUM: The Exhibition 鈥 a new, unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the intriguing world of quantum physics. An interactive, bilingual, travelling exhibit, QUANTUM will introduce visitors to the core concepts of quantum mechanics and how this 鈥渟pooky鈥 science is already revolutionizing technology as we know it.

Launching in late October 2016 at THEMUSEUM in 蓝莓视频 Region, this 4,000 square foot exhibition will then travel to science centres across the country as part of INNOVATION150 鈥 a Department of Canadian Heritage Signature Initiative for the 150th anniversary of confederation. QUANTUM will feature multimedia, videos and hands-on interactives to delight visitors of all ages and share the wonders of the quantum world.

As the first of its kind, the quantum exhibition is an ambitious project that tackles a complex topic, but one that is increasingly gaining international attention. Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau recently became an international internet sensation for his explanation of quantum computing while visiting 蓝莓视频.

With focused efforts in quantum research taking place at research centres worldwide, IQC鈥檚 project is both timely and relevant in a Canadian context. 鈥淐anada鈥檚 150th is an ideal time to celebrate great Canadian science and bring quantum science to Canadians across the country,鈥 explained Tobi Day-Hamilton, Associate Director, Strategic Initiatives at IQC. 鈥淭he research that is happening at IQC and at other institutes across the country is too important to stay in the labs. We want everyone to have an understanding of how quantum technologies will change their lives.鈥

After launching in 蓝莓视频 Region, is slated for a cross-country tour beginning in Vancouver at Science World at TELUS World of Science in January 2017. It will then travel across the country with stops including Halifax鈥檚 Discovery Centre, Ottawa鈥檚 Canada Science and Technology Museum and others in between.

IQC is one of five partners making up the INNOVATION150 initiative for Canada鈥檚 150th anniversary. Other INNOVATION150 partners include Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics, Actua, the Canadian Association of Science Centres and the Canada Science and Technology Museums Corporation. Together, these organizations will celebrate Canadian innovation across Canada in 2017 with travelling exhibits, speakers, programs and events.
