Leaders of the G7 nations issued a joint statement this week presenting a shared vision to accelerate the development of quantum technologies, marking a significant step toward global coordination. The Prime Minister’s Office emphasized that the group had deepened its cooperation through a series of joint statements, including on quantum innovation.

Released following the G7 summit in Alberta this week, the commits support to help accelerate quantum technology development with innovation, global collaboration, secure ecosystems, and future-ready skills, including a G7 Joint Working Group on Quantum Technologies, involving industry and academia. 

The group noted the significant breakthroughs in quantum research and development over the last decade. And that quantum technologies — computing, sensing, and communications — are set to create economic and social benefits and address global challenges.

A statement following the conclusion of the Kananaskis G7 meeting said Canada will also be taking action to build stronger economies and international systems, which includes a $22 million investment to accelerate the development and use of quantum technologies.
