What is happening?ÌýIn response to the outcome of a recent cybersecurity audit, as well as a planned rollout of new cybersecurity standards to address significantly enhanced cybersecurity compliance requirements at the institutional level, we have changed the way University email is managed and have updated the Email Server Guidelines to reflect this change.
What is the impact?ÌýAll email servers and/or domains must use Information Systems & Technology’s (ISTs) email security gateway or be shut down, as outlined in the updated guidelines. Email sent to/from these servers and/or domains will otherwise be blocked to protect and improve the email reputation of the uwaterloo.ca, and to reduce exposure to email-based cybersecurity threats.
When is this happening?ÌýThe block will be implemented on Monday, August 25, 2025. Email servers and/or domains that do not comply with the guidelines by this date will no longer be able to exchange email with other internet email servers. Ìý
What do I need to do?ÌýÌý
- If your email server and/or domain must remain active, review the options available to you in the updated Email Server Guidelines and select one to move forward with.Ìý
- Shut down email servers and/or domains that are no longer required.
