Hallman Undergraduate Research Fellowship

The Hallman Undergraduate Research Fellowship in Health and Promotion supports undergraduate students who wish to participate in research projects under the supervision of Faculty of Health researchers focusing on health promotion and education.Ìý This fellowship is in honour of Lyle Hallman's vision of a healthy and educated community.

Purpose

The Research Fellowship was created to equip undergraduate students with research experience in the area of health promotion and education as well as encourage students to consider and/or pursue graduate studies.ÌýÌý

In addition, the Research Fellowship provides students with the opportunity to become familiar with the health promotion-related research occurring within the Faculty of Health, research centres, and institutes.

Funding

Faculty of Health members, who are interested in supervising a student, are eligible to submit an application.Ìý Please note that the Research Fellowship funds can only be used during the Spring term of the year awarded.ÌýÌý

Financial compensation of the Research Fellowship is based on the following circumstances:Ìý

  • Undergraduate student is working on the project part-time during an academic term
  • Undergraduate student is working on the project full-time as a co-op work termÌý
  • Undergraduate student is working on a non-academic term for work experience

**Undergraduate students may not hold other awards simultaneously and may only work up to 35 hours per week in total (i.e. if a student holds a Hallman fellowship for 1.0 FTE, they cannot be employed in another position that increases their work hours past 35 hours per week).Ìý It is the responsibility of the Principal Investigator and Fellow to accurately evaluate the total number of hours the student is working per week.

The supervising professor may choose the work complement if the student will be part-time (i.e. 0.8 FTE vs 0.3 FTE or other complement); however, the rate of funding will be determined by the Dean's Office in the Faculty of Health.

**The candidate must be an undergraduate student in the Spring term and must be returning in the Fall term for additional degree requirements. In other words, the Spring term cannot be the final term of the student's undergraduate studies. There will be no exceptions.

The amount allocated will vary based on the aforementioned points and other factors as well. Ìý
