Life and Death in the Era of Drones

WATERLOO, ON – The Kindred Credit Union Centre for Peace Advancement will launch its latest Grebel Gallery exhibit, “The Cultural Life of Drones: KW Drone Dialogues” with a reception at 7:00 PM on November 14, 2019. Created by Sara Matthews, Associate Professor in Global Studies at Wilfrid Laurier University, this exhibit explores the myriad of ways in which drones are embedded into our everyday lives, as well as our ideas about the kinds of life and death that drones make.

Karen SunabackaThe students, staff, and faculty of Conrad Grebel University College are fortunate to have Karen Sunabacka as an Associate Professor in the Music Department. Along with teaching music theory and composition, Karen is an internationally renowned composer. Her compositions have been performed across Canada and the U.S., as well as in South America and Europe.

Grebel students at the Global Climate Strike in ݮƵAccording to the United Nations, “Climate Change is the defining issue of our time.” This idea has led to climate strikes around the world which call for world leaders to take action against climate change. Sweden’s 16-year-old climate activist Greta Thunberg began these strikes in August 2018 and she has inspired millions of people around the world to join in her call for stronger and immediate climate action.

2019 Eby Lecture - Witnessing PassionWATERLOO, ON – On October 10, 2019, Professor Mark Vuorinen, Chair of Music at Conrad Grebel University College and the University of ݮƵ, will speak on “Witnessing Passion: Musical Depiction of Minor Characters in Passion Music by Bach, Ešenvalds, MacMillan, and Pärt” as the 2019 Benjamin Eby Lecturer.

This September, 288 students travelled from across Canada and the USA, as well as from Indonesia, Sudan, Vietnam, and Singapore, to reach their destination of Conrad Grebel University College at the University of ݮƵ in Ontario.

Celebrate Peace Week 2019

Peace Week 2019

Every year, on September 21, the world celebrates the International Day of Peace. Established by the United Nations in 1981, Peace Day provides a globally shared date for all humanity to commit to peace above all differences and to build a culture of peace. Inspired by this initiative, the Kindred Credit Union Centre for Peace Advancement at Conrad Grebel University College invites students, staff, and faculty at the University of ݮƵ to attend peace events from September 16 to 22.

Observing Mennonite Heritage Week

Barnraising by Peter GoetzEarlier this year, the Canadian Parliament the second week of September to be Mennonite Heritage Week – a time to “recognize the contributions that Canadian Mennonites have made to building Canadian society, their history of hope and perseverance, the richness of the Mennonite culture, their role in promoting peace and justice both at home and abroad.”
