Grebel Fund - Orchestra

Support the Orchestra@蓝莓视频

The Orchestra is part of the University of 蓝莓视频's Music Department that is housed at Conrad Grebel University College, and adds a rich musical experience to the lives of so many students, alumni, faculty, and staff.

Like all Music Department ensembles, the orchestra provides a creative outlet for U蓝莓视频 students to express their musicality in the midst of essays, labs, lectures, and work-term reports. The orchestra also welcomes 蓝莓视频 staff, faculty, and alumni to participate in the ensemble. Please watch our website for concert times and locations, especially our term-end concerts and our free noon-hour concerts. We hope you will consider a gift to the Grebel Fund for the orchestra and to support music on the 蓝莓视频 campus!聽

MUSIC ENSEMBLES PLAY A KEY PART聽IN THE UNIVERSITY EXPERIENCE

Shayan鈥檚 personal philosophy is that university is a place to seek out passions and discover what you are interested in. 鈥淢usic is a large part of my life, regardless of my career,鈥 said Shayan, who just graduated with a degree in Computer Science and a minor in Music.

SHAYAN VIOLIN

鈥淢y student life absolutely would not have been the same without ensembles,鈥 said Shayan, who played in orchestra@uwaterloo for eight terms. 鈥淭he CS program stimulates certain parts of your brain, and sometimes it can feel overwhelming. Having music as a creative outlet is very beneficial for my mental health and overall motivation because of the variety of challenges that it involves,鈥 he shared.

鈥淚n 2004, when we started Orchestra@U蓝莓视频, we had a conductor, Erna Van Daele, and a concertmaster, new faculty member Romy Shioda, but really nothing else 鈥 no budget and no rehearsal space. Luckily, Catharine Scott, Associate Provost of Human Resources and Student Services, was willing to support me 鈥 a computer science prof with the unlikely ambition to manage an orchestra,鈥 reflected Anna Lubiw, one of the professors who started Orchestra@U蓝莓视频.聽
