The name Paganini conjures as much myth as history for musicians and violinists.Ìý Portraits reveal a gaunt, ghostly man, and much of the music he composed asks for seemingly impossible feats of time and distance.Ìý Join violinistÌýBenjamin SungÌýfor a performance of Paganini'sÌýOpus 1: the 24 Caprices for violin solo.Ìý Taken together, these works are a testament to the potential of human achievement - in creativity, in expression, in technique, and in art.Ìý

Sergei Prokofiev wrote the story and composed the music for Peter and the Wolf in 1936. It was written in two weeks for a children's theatre in Moscow. He wrote the music as a child's introduction to the orchestra with each character being represented by an instrument or group of instruments. Peter and the Wolf was an immediate success and continues to be enjoyed today by children all over the world.

For Peter and the Wolf, The KW Woodwind Quintet will be joined by narrator by Mark Vuorinen. In addition, the quintet will perform Mozart's Variations on Ah! Vous dirai-je, Maman (known to many as Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star) and and excerpt of Mozart's Horn Concerto in F, played on a garden hose.

Directed by well-known local musician Daniel Warren, this 60 member orchestra will play the following pieces:

Tchaikovsky symphony #6 (the Pathetique)
Smetana: Dances from the "Bartered Bride".
Wieniawski: Violin Concerto no. 2 in D minor

Journeys is a concert that will be examining music that talks of journey and home. The central piece on the program is the epic story of Kouta as set to music by Mäntyjärvi. Other pieces will include music by Dvorak, Victoria, Hogan, and others.Ìý This sixtyÌývoice choir is accompanied by Nicole Simone and directed byÌýLiska Jetchick.ÌýÌý

Join us for a highlight of the Winter term, the 22Ìýmember jazz ensemble concert.Ìý Directed by Michael Wood, the Jazz Ensemble plays a wide range of jazz standards and newer compositions. This term the ensemble is featuring the music of Quincy Jones, Wayne Short, Rob McConnell, and more.

Admission is $10/$5 students and seniors.Ìý Tickets available at the door.Ìý Reception to follow.
