Move-in details for students in leadership roles
OWLs, LLT, and StuCo move in from 10-11:30am on Friday, August 30th.
Move-in details forÌýreturning students
Saturday, August 31 between 9 and 11 am (except for leaders who have already moved in)
- Park in the main parking lot
- Leave your items in your vehicle
- Walk to the residence foyer
- Pick up your green or orange card, keys, and move-in packet from the registration desk
- Do a room check
- Bring your orange/green card back to the Dons (for residents) or the Apartment SuperintendentÌý- Jared Dyck (for apartment dwellers)
- Go back to your vehicle and drive it to the north end of the property, close-ish to the Grebel apartments and residence entrance
- Unload your items, return your car to the main lot
- Then move your items into your room.
Please note: Incoming students will be moving in between 1:30 and 3, so if you cannot arrive between 9 and 11, contact grebelstudentservices@uwaterloo.ca to discuss arriving after 3pm.
Tips for living in residence at Grebel
Here are a few tips as you begin thinking about what to pack for the fall! For more information please also refer to the Fall 2024 Residence handbook
Rooms
·ÌýEach room contains 2 desks, 2 desk chairs, 2 single beds, 4 drawer units and 2 closets. Drapes are provided for each room.Ìý All furniture provided by Grebel must remain in the room.

·ÌýGrebel has two rooms called ‘quads’. The quads consist of 2 adjoining rooms which house 4 students, with 2 in each room.

·ÌýLong end = south end of each of the 3rd and 4th floors
·ÌýShort end = north end of each of the 3rd and 4th floors
·ÌýMorgue = silent study area connected to student games lounge
Washrooms
·Ìý3rd floor long end has two male, multi-user washrooms and a single-user washroom
·Ìý3rd floor short end has an all-gender, multi-user washroom
·Ìý4th floor long end has two female, multi-user washrooms
·Ìý4th floor short end has a single-gender, multi-user washroom and a single-user washroom
Storage/Parking - bikes and hockey equipment
·ÌýYou may find a bike useful, but we recommend that you don’t bring an expensive bike. We do have a storage room where it can be stored for a small fee. Bikes are not permitted in the building. Space is limited to one bike per person.
·ÌýHockey equipment may be stored in a hockey storage room located in the apartment building for a small fee.
·ÌýParking permits and storage keys are available through the Optional Services form or by visiting Grebel’s reception desk at any point in the term.
Appliances
·ÌýAppliances are not permitted in a residence room except for the following:
·Ìýhot air popcorn poppers
·Ìýsmall coffee makers and kettles (no more than 1000 watts) .
·Ìýsmall refrigerators (no larger than 1000 watts or 5 cubic feet)
·ÌýGrebel has a kitchenette for resident, associate, staff and faculty use! Open 24/7! The kitchenette is equipped with microwaves, a toaster oven, and other useful appliances.
Public spaces
·Ìý3rd and 4th floor lounges are equipped with a TV, refrigerator and printer.
·ÌýGames room, fitness area, and lounge with foosball, pool table and ping pong table on the 2nd floor. Mailboxes are located in the lounge area.
·ÌýPrivate music practice rooms across the hall from the games room. Refer to the handbook for musical instrument guidelines.
·ÌýLaundry room located beside the games room with card-operated washers and dryers. We will provide you with one laundry card, which can be loaded with a debit or credit card. This room is also equipped with a wash tub, ironing board and irons. It is available 24 hours a day.
Wifi
·ÌýEach room has been wired for high speed access to the UW Computer Network and the wireless network is available throughout the residence building.

- Bring clothes hangers
- Bring a fan for warm days
- You may wish to bring a desk lamp
- Linens are not provided in rooms
- Most beds at Grebel are extra-long. It is advisable to buy Twin XL sheets.
- High efficiency detergent is required for ourÌýlaundry machines.
- Printers are available in the 3rd and 4th floor lounges.
- If you intend to bring your own printer, please bring cables to connect to your device as wireless routers interfere with the Resnet system.
ArrivalÌýforÌýfirst-year Off-Campus Associates (OCA's)
First year OCAs and their families are invited to join us at Grebel's front doors at 1:15pm for a Big Welcome at 1:30pm on Saturday, August 31.

Off-Campus Associates are invited to Orientation Week events starting at 7pm on the Grebel Green. Be sure to check your mailbox for your name button and start-of-term information!

All-GrebelÌýRetreat
This year the All-Grebel Retreat will take place right here at Grebel on Saturday, September 7. It will run from approximately 11am - 8pm, and will include a Faculty Brunch, campfire, barbeque dinner, and adventures around the Kitchener-À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ community. Be sure to save the date, and hold off on making alternate plans for this day!
