GoHelP Member awarded Flight 302 Legacy Award

Alexa Bennett, a PhD candidate in Geography and Environmental Management, has been awarded the , recognizing her dedication to environmental and humanitarian work. The $10,000 award honors the victims of Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302, many of whom were traveling to a UN environmental conference.

Bennett was in Nairobi 2 months after the tragedy, working on a Global Affairs Canada-funded health projectan experience that reinforced her commitment to global change. Now, her research explores聽the public health impacts of water insecurity in Ghana, with upcoming fieldwork in聽sub-Saharan Africa.

鈥淭his scholarship strengthens my ability to conduct my doctoral research and build meaningful partnerships with the communities I work with,鈥 says Bennett. 鈥淚 am committed to carrying forward the legacy of positive change in honor of those who lost their lives six years ago.鈥
