Fine Arts faculty member Bojana Videkanic, along with alumna Žana Kozomora (BA ’15) and four other Yugoslav-Canadian artists – Tamara Vukov, Saša Rajšić, Sonja Zlatanova and Una di Gallo, have created a visual essay and provided their artwork for a series of articles under the title Yugosplaining.

Fine Arts Alumna Jess Lincoln has been awarded a 2020 grant from the to support her in her studio practice.  The Foundation provides grants to emerging artists from all around the world who are working in a representational style.  

The Faculty of Arts has published an article by Esmeralda da Conceicao (Fine Arts BA 1996) describing her experiences living in Bologna, Italy during the quarantine lockdown.  Esmeralda has been teaching there for several years and shares her perspective on finding balance while the coping with the changes. 

The Master of Fine Arts (MFA) Thesis exhibitions give the campus and community-at-large an opportunity to see the end result of two years of intensive research and studio production by emerging visual artists.  In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting cancellation of the physical thesis exhibitions of the MFA candidates, the Department of Fine Arts and University of À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ Art Gallery (UWAG) invite you to explore their exhibitions online.

Each year the Fine Arts Department recognizes and celebrates the accomplishments of our students with the Annual Fine Arts Awards Day ceremony. Sadly, this year the ceremony could not take place.

However, the department would still like to publicly recognize the 2019-2020 award winners. Below is a list of the awards and recipients. Congratulations and well done.

On March 6th 2020, Fine Arts graduate students Karice Mitchell, Carrie Perreault and Racquel Rowe participated in the Faculty of Arts annual Three Minute Thesis (3MT) heat.

In light of the disappointing cancellation of the 4th Year Undergraduate Exhibition, the Fine Arts department and the 4th year class would like to share the catalogue that was created to accompany the exhibition.

Due to  concerns surrounding COVID-19, and following the directives given by the University of À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ, the Department of Fine Arts has cancelled all events that are not vital to our academic mission for the duration of the Winter 2020 term.

The cancellations include:

• Fine Arts Awards Day 
• 2020 Fine Arts 4th Year Undergraduate Exhibition
• Upcoming Life Drawing Sessions

We take the well-being of our students, staff and faculty seriously and will do our part to help stabilize the situation in our community.

The University of À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ Art Gallery, working in conjunction with the Department of Fine Arts, is sad to announce that we have made the difficult decision to cancel this year's senior undergraduate exhibition which was scheduled to open this week. 

In considering public health and University of À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ directives to limit the spread of COVID-19 we felt it was necessary to make this difficult decision.
