The practice of gardening can help give you hope as it connects you to other living things. However, most garden systems focus on annual plants, tomatoes, peppers, cucumber, squash, corn, lettuce etc. These types of garden systems require a lot of physical work and planning from one year to the next. The alternative is to work in groups taking care of a perennial garden system i.e. Perennial Hedge, for example: Rhubarb, Chives, oregano, thyme, lavage, strawberries, Saskatoon berries, gooseberries etc. This type of gardening require very little work, will give you more harvest than a typical annual garden system, promotes community building and promotes an optimistic view for stabilizing our climate.
