Each term, MNS Soc hosts a variety of events and activities to strengthen the sense of community within the program and this term was no exception. From conferences and mixers to movie nights and new swag, it was a busy term for the MNS Soc.
To kick off the term, the MNS Society hosted an exciting collaborative Movie Night to watch Einstein and Eddington in collaboration with PhysClub, UW Astro Club, and FemPhys. Following the collaborative movie night event, we hosted a Games Night, where students had the chance to play board games, enjoy some great food, and get to know the MNS Society executive team. We also made liquid nitrogen ice cream! Big thanks to the Chem department for sponsoring the liquid nitrogen for the event!
As part of our termly lab events, we successfully held our Bismuth Recrystallization event on March 5th. This hands-on event allowed participants to explore the fascinating world of material science through the recrystallization of bismuth, providing both an educational and interactive experience for all involved.
Our last event of the term was a fun student-prof night at the Grad House in collaboration with PhysClub and FemPhys. The night was filled with great conversations, laughter, and meaningful connections. A huge thank you to all the professors and curious students who joined us.
The MNS Soc also attended other events on campus to meet our students and make connections. We attended the 10th annual À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ Nanotechnology Conference: "Revitalizing Nano: Advancing Healthcare through Nanobiotechnology," and met Science and Engineering students, and other clubs and societies from across campus. We attended the Faculty of Science’s International Student Night to meet new MNS students and welcome them into our community. Some of our MNS Soc leaders were also nominated for awards at the Faculty’s Student Leadership Event and we went to cheer them on!
One of the most anticipated events of the term was the launch of our brand-new merch! With seven different designs and three different colours, the new MNS t-shirts are a hot commodity. We also have a whole line of new stickers that students are loving this term. Thanks to our VP of Advocacy Sahar Khan, for the exciting new designs. If you’re interested in grabbing one of your own MNS t-shirts, reach out to the executive!
We’re excited to continue building this vibrant community and look forward to even more exciting events in the future!Â
