Carlos Moreno received his PhD from the University of ��ݮ��Ƶ, working in the area of Cryptography and Embedded Systems Security. He also holds an M.Eng. degree from McGill University in the area of Digital Signal Processing, and a B.Eng. in Electronics Engineering from Universidad Simon Bolivar in Caracas, Venezuela, where he graduated First of his Class. Industry experience includes software and hardware development for Industrial Control and Monitoring systems. He has recently worked on ISO-26262 Automotive Functional Safety compliance with a UW Industry Partner.

While at the University of ��ݮ��Ƶ, he completed the Certificate in University Teaching from the Centre for Teaching Excellence and obtained the Certificate in University Teaching Award, given annually to the participant that demonstrates highest achievement upon completion of the Certificate. He has been Sessional Instructor in several courses, including Computer Security and Privacy (ECE-458) and Real-Time Embedded Software (ECE-455).

He obtained the Best Paper Award at the conference for his paper “Non-Intrusive Program Tracing and Debugging of Deployed Embedded Systems Through Side-Channel Analysis”, co-authored with Sebastian Fischmeister and M. Anwar Hasan. He has been also nominated/short-listed for the Best Poster Award at the ICISSP-2017 conference for his position paper “On the Security of Safety-Critical Embedded Systems: Who Watches the Watchers? Who Reprograms the Watchers?”, co-authored with Sebastian Fischmeister (Award decision will be announced at the conference, in February 2017).
