Dr. Claudio Cañizares, a professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ, has been awarded the 2025 IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) Ramakumar Family Renewable Energy Excellence Award. This distinguished award recognizes outstanding contributions to the development, utilization, and integration of renewable energy resources in both national and global energy scenarios.
Professor Cañizares was selected through a rigorous and competitive process, in recognition of the significant impact of his research in driving a more resilient and sustainable energy system.
A University Professor and the Hydro One Endowed Chair, Professor Cañizares also serves as the Executive Director of the À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ Institute for Sustainable Energy (WISE). His research focuses on the stability, control, optimization, modeling, simulation, and computational challenges of bulk power systems, microgrids, and broader energy systems, particularly within the context of competitive energy markets and smart grids.
He is widely recognized as a global leader in the power and energy field and is a Fellow of the IEEE, the Royal Society of Canada, and the Canadian Academy of Engineering.
This achievement will be celebrated at the IEEE PES General Meeting Awards Gala Dinner & Ceremony in July, in Austin, Texas, USA.
