There's still time to register for theGender Inclusion in Research, Hiring, and Training: Data & Strategies.This session was designed by the Inclusive Research Team in the Office of Research as part of theBuilding Inclusive Research Capacity (BIRC) Program for faculty.
Topics covered in the workshopinclude organizational values, diversity in teams, overcoming barriers, and promoting a broadly inclusive culture through allyship in research, hiring, and training.
Dr. Hilary Bergsieker,ݮƵ Equity Fellow andProject RISE Co-Leadwithin the, will deliver this interactive workshop.
The workshop will take place on Wednesday, October 11, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.(including a break for coffee and light refreshments) inE7 7303.

Learn and engage in discussion about the latest in computer science research at this showcase of scholarly excellence made possible by David R. Cheriton’s generous investment in education.
This year’s symposium begins with a welcome at 9:30 a.m. in DC 1302 by Cheriton School of Computer Science Director Raouf Boutaba, followed by presentations by Cheriton Chairs Professors N. Asokan and Jimmy Lin. Following their talks is a presentation by Professor Emeritus David R. Cheriton. The afternoon session features poster presentations by Cheriton School of Computer Science graduate students in the DC Atrium from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The symposium wraps up with an awards ceremonyin DC 1301for the first-, second- and third-place poster winners.

The Faculty of Science is hosting aNew Faculty Lecturetonight featuring the Faculty's Dean,Dr. Chris Houser, who will be speaking onThe State of Canada'sCoastline."Coastal erosionand floodingisaglobal problemthat is a result of both human activity and naturalprocesses," says the lecture's abstract. "It poses a threat topersonal property, sensitiveecosystems and critical infrastructure.Dr. Houser willfocus on coastal issues within the Great Lakes includingbluff retreat along the north shore of Lake Erie,the erosion at PointPeleewhich threatens critical habitat for migratory birds,andthe retreat of the shoreline at Pinery Provincial Park, Long Point and Rondeau. He will alsotalk abouthigh waterlevels and coastal floodring as well as changes in lake ice and storm activityand how changes in those will affect coastlines in the future.Dr. Houser will also discuss beach safety issues in the Great Lakes with a focus on rip currents,drowningsand the need to improve beach safety."
