Ontario Universities' Fair kicks off recruiting season

The University of ݮƵ booth at the Ontario Universities' Fair.

“What do I need to get into your engineering program?” “Do you have scholarships?” “Is your university located in Quebec?” These are some of the many questions that representatives from Ontario’s 21 universities, including ݮƵ, will be answering at the annualthis weekend. Running from September 27 to 29, the fair will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, and kicks off the recruitment of ݮƵ’s incoming class for fall 2020.

Last year saw nearly 120,000 visitors pass through the fair between Friday and Sunday, with similar numbers expected this year – and it’s anticipated that nearly half of them will stop by the ݮƵ booth or presentation room to pick up abrochureor learn more about the university. ݮƵ will be well represented, with nearly 600 staff, students, and faculty working at the fair over the course of the weekend, addressing everything from admission requirements and career outcomes to our Quidditch club and goose population. Special thanks go out to all those who will be participating, with a reminder to stay hydrated, and take advantage of the throat lozenges that will be on hand!

The OUF kicks off theseries (formerly theUniversity Information Program), which will see representatives from all Ontario universities visiting high schools across the province between September 30 and November 8. ݮƵ’s participation in the OUF is spearheaded by Jody Berringer, Manager, Liaison.

ݮƵ Innovation Summit descends on E7 October 1

After stops in Toronto, Vancouver and London, the ݮƵ Innovation Summit returns to ݮƵ on Oct. 1 with a focus on the disruptive impact that technology is having on global and individual health care. The Summit will bring together 200 influential leaders, researchers and entrepreneurs for a discussion on how HealthTech is transforming individual health and the delivery of medical care.

Remembering Phil Everson

Friends and colleagues of University of ݮƵ alumnus Phil Everson will gather on October 5 for a memorial service.passed away on Sunday, September 22 after participating in a half-marathon event in Ottawa.

Everson (BASc ’17 - Engineering, MGTE) was well-known on campus as a student leader and was active as a startup coach for Velocity (now Concept).

“Phil dedicated his time and energy to many efforts on campus including Velocity/Concept campus coaching, the Entrepreneurship Society, Management Engineering community, Entrepreneur-In-Residence, UW Institute of Industrial & Systems Engineers (IIE) conference, the Engineering Society, and the Varsity cross country team,” says a note from the memorial organizers. “He was also a teaching assistant and a TEDxUW speaker.”

Everson was also a member of the Federation Orientation Committee in 2013, and was involved in Orientation in various ways throughout his time as an undergraduate student.

“He played a leadership role in all of these, always solving problems that arose with grace while enabling people to perform at their best.”

The on-campus memorial event takes place on Saturday, October 5 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the second floor of South Campus Hall. The dress code for the event is casual.

ճGreater Kitchener ݮƵ Chamber of Commerce hosted its 2019 Annual General Meetingon Tuesday,September 24in Engineering 7.Sanjeev Gill, Associate Vice President, Innovation was the featured speaker during the program which welcomed close to 100 attendees from the ݮƵ Region business community.At the AGM, City of ݮƵ Mayor Dave Jaworsky inducted the 2019-20 Board of Directors.University of ݮƵ’sKelly McManus, senior director, community relations & events, was appointed Chair of the Board of Directors for a two year term. McManus has served on the Chamber Board since September 2013.
