Researchers at the University of À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ have developed a blueprint for designing effective information systems that will help parents receive efficient updates about their school-aged children.

The system comes out of a study that examined the use of technologies such as GPS, fitness trackers and surveillance applications and the best ways these can be used to inform parents while respecting privacy.

The University of À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ and the University of Rochester jointly hosted a photonics symposium this week in honour of Nobel laureate Donna Strickland.

The Celebratory À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ-Rochester Photonics Symposium showcased her research in photonics with a keynote address by Professor Strickland.

Four key areas of photonics research were featured: High field science, chirped pulse amplification, biophotonics, and ultrafast lasers and quantum information.

In spring 2020, international robotics expert Katja Mombaur will join the University of À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ as a Canada Excellence Research Chair (CERC) in Human-Centred Robotics and Machine Learning.

More than 60 faculty members and graduate students at the University of À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ are receiving funds to advance their research in the areas of education, immigration, Indigenous health, and the environment.

History professor Steven Bednarski will receive $2.5 million to establish the first permanent humanities lab dedicated to digitizing environmental history and understanding human impacts on the natural world and vice versa.
