As a co-op student, you willÌýreceive academic credit for your work terms based on how yourÌýperformance is evaluated by yourÌýemployer at the end of yourÌýwork term.
Your co-op work terms areÌýa great opportunity to adopt a lifelong learning mindset byÌýfocusing on the development of targeted competencies that are key toÌýfuture career success.ÌýTo assist you in identifying these competencies,Ìýthe University of À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ has developed theÌýFuture Ready Talent FrameworkÌý(FRTF),ÌýconsistingÌýof four talent clusters,Ìýthat contain three competencies each. The Student Performance Evaluation reflects this.
The Student Performance Evaluation
TheÌýStudent Performance Evaluation was designed throughÌýa future-oriented lens toÌýprovide better clarity as you focus on developing these competencies over the course of your work term. These competencies will focus on the top three areas of strength and top three areas for development.
To make the most of the Student Performance Evaluation, we recommend using the following approach:
1)ÌýScheduleÌýa pre-evaluation/review of the Student Performance EvaluationÌýand define expectations
At the start of your work term, it is recommended that you meet with yourÌýemployer to ensure youÌýhave a clear understandingÌýof what is expected of you. During this meeting, you and your employer are encouraged to take the time to review the Student Performance Evaluation. You can explore each of the 12 competencies andÌýset goals for skill developmentÌýbased on the expectations of your role.Ìý
2) ArrangeÌýan informal mid-term evaluation/check-inÌýto help you with your competency development
You may choose toÌýdiscuss your performance BEFORE the end of yourÌýco-op work term by askingÌýyour employer to conduct an informal mid-term evaluation. These early conversations can be helpful to identify your current progress in terms of competency development. Here you may receive insight into which areas you may want to focus on further developingÌýbefore the end of your workÌýterm.Ìý
Note: Mid-term evaluations are for reflection purposesÌýand will not be recorded onÌýÀ¶Ý®ÊÓƵWorks.Ìý
3)ÌýConduct a formal end of term evaluation (Required)
To receive co-op credit, youÌýmust receive an evaluation of marginal or betterÌýon each of your individual work terms. Ideally, this should be submitted by yourÌýemployer by the end of theÌýwork term. To learn more about the Student Performance Evaluation requirements, please visit theÌýco-op roles and responsibilitiesÌý·É±ð²ú±è²¹²µ±ð.
We’ll reach out and send multiple reminders to the contact listed on yourÌý"Work Term Record" (your "Work Term Record" can be found on the bottom right side of theÌýÀ¶Ý®ÊÓƵWorks dashboard) to conduct a Student PerformanceÌýEvaluation during the fourth month of your work term.ÌýAs a co-op student, it is yourÌýresponsibility to ensure your employerÌýcompletes and submits this within the appropriate time frame. It is best if youÌýcan remind your employer to submit yourÌýStudent Performance Evaluation BEFORE youÌýleave the work term. If you have any questions about working with your employer to complete your Student Performance Evaluation, please reach out to yourÌýco-op advisor.Ìý
