Dr. Scott Walbridge has been selected as the new chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ.  

Walbridge, who will take over from outgoing chair Dr. Carl Haas, begins a four-year term Nov. 1.

Four À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ Engineering students have been awarded $5,000 scholarships created to reward high-achieving Muslim students for outstanding contributions to their communities.

Youssra Rahham of chemical engineering, Azwad Abid of systems design engineering, Rodaina Aboelela of architectural engineering and Subha Azrin of computer engineering are among 74 MAX Scholarships award winners across Canada. To continue reading this story please click here.

Making a breakthrough in bricks

A project inspired by a co-op work term on a construction crew has put a À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ Engineering student in the running for an international invention prize.

Adrian Simone, who is in his fourth year of the civil engineering program, was announced today as a national runner-up in the 2022 James Dyson Award competition for a proposal to make bricks using bacteria. 

A former student at À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ Engineering is a co-founder of a Toronto-based startup company that recently secured $10 million in funding to help fuel its growth.

Kevin Kim, who dropped out of the civil engineering program in his fourth year in 2011, launched  in 2020 to develop a digital playground for young sports fans. To continue reading this article please click here.

This term, Spring 2022, the Civil Engineering Capstone Design Project was back in-person (though we’ve kept the progress meetings online!) and created this collage of teams. It’s been a very busy and productive term for all the CIVE400 capstone teams that produced excellent conceptual and preliminary designs in their Phase 1.

Three recent graduates from the Water Science, Technology & Policy group (WaterSTP) in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at the University of À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ have received three of four top international awards for best Master’s thesis research, marking the first time so many awards have been secured from the two associations by one group in a competition year.
