The 3MT challenges competitors to use 1 static slide and 3 minutes to explain the breadth and significance of their graduate research to a non-specialist audience.Haya Almutairi, a PhD Candidate in Civil & Environmental Engineering, was chosen to represent ݮƵ at the Ontario Provincial 3MT finals. Michelle Liu carefully plans each hour of each day three weeks in advance to figure out where she needs to be and when.
Between volunteering up to 40 hours a month in several different roles on and off campus and keeping on top of her graduate studies, she constantly checks her changing calendar.
“I call it 80 productive hours a week, divided between volunteering and my studies,” Liu says with a laugh.

Professor Mark Knight, the executive director of the Centre for the Advancement of Trenchless Technologies (CATT), received the 2018 CNAM Pioneer Award. This award honours individuals who have played an integral role in advancing the asset management industry in Canada and celebrates their long-term commitment and unwavering dedication to the asset management industry.
Ric Soulis, a longtime ݮƵ civil and environmental engineering professor, died June 21 after a brief illness.
Born in Toronto in 1949, Ric was raised in Kitchener where he attended Eastwood Collegiate Institute. He received his BASc in civil engineering in 1972 from the University of ݮƵ and then attended Memorial University of Newfoundland.
