10 years of catalyzing collaboration

On Saturday, September 21, the International Day of Peace, the Kindred Credit Union Centre for Peace Advancement celebrated its 10th anniversary. The event not only celebrated a decade of achievements but also reignited people's commitment to advancing peace locally and globally.

The Grebel Peace Incubator in the Kindred Credit Union Centre for Peace Advancement has mobilized a diverse range of peace-related start-ups in the À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ Region over the past decade. Tech companies like GeoMate and well-known charities like Theatre of the Beat and The Ripple Effect Education (TREE) are among the thirty-two initiatives that have benefited from the incubator’s mentorship, funding, and learning community.

With the Centre’s 10th anniversary approaching on September 21, 2024, we reflect on a decade of peacebuilding at the Kindred Credit Union Centre for Peace Advancement. This event, taking place on the International Day of Peace event at Conrad Grebel University College, will feature impactful talks, interactive discussions, and reflections on the Centre’s transformative role in fostering global peace and collaboration.

Building inclusive communities

Together GRFS and IDI-KW create inclusive communities through social activities, educational seminars, and artistic and cultural events.

Grebel Peace Incubator start-up ESGTree played a key role in this year’s Together | Ensemble Conference that was held in À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ on May 28 and 29. Organized by Sustainable Development Solutions Network Canada, this national event aims to spark progress on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The conference brought together experts from universities, governments, and the private sector to explore three high-impact areas for sustainable development: Sustainable Finance, Future Cities & Housing, and AI & Emerging Tech for Eco-Innovation.

On May 27, Fiona Li earned the second-place prize at the Map the System Canada competition in Calgary, Alberta. As the winner of the University of À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ’s Map the System campus finals, Fiona’s achievement on the national stage not only brought awareness to the over-representation of Indigenous women in Canadian prisons, but it also highlighted how programs like Peace and Conflict Studies are crucial in furthering education on how to research, understand, and present these critical issues.Â
