Systems thinking underway

Map the System 2025 is now in full motion at the University of ݮƵ!Registering is the easy part – it is now time for research! During February and March, students will be preparing their competition deliverables to be submitted by April 1.The top five teams will present their research on April 7th at the Campus Finals, and the winning team progresses to national finals at the Banff Systems Summit from May 19-22 and potentially the global finals in Oxford in July.

As the political climate in Syria changes, many Syrian families are left with confusion and countless questions. In hopes of answering these questions, some are turning to Findsuri for help. is a non-profit organization supported by the Grebel Peace Incubator that provides a secure online platform with resources designed to find missing Syrian individuals.As the need and the platform continues to expand, they need more support. They have launched a to raise $50,000 towards their goal.

The Centre for Community Based Research (CCBR), one of the Core Collaborators situated within the Kindred Credit Union Centre for Peace Advancement, is pleased to launch a new Certificate Program in Community-based Research in partnership with Conrad Grebel University College and the University of ݮƵ. CCBR is a non-profit organization committed to strengthening communities through research and education.The new Certificate Program in Community-Based Research is a leading resource for learning how to use research to drive impactful change.

Paint as Protest

During the 2024 Eby Lecture at Conrad Grebel University College, Professor Eric Lepp invited the audience to look beyond the paint and lend an ear to the voices of those who create it.

The Kindred Credit Union Centre for Peace Advancement is thrilled to announce the launch of Map the System 2025, a global competition developed by the Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurship at Oxford University. The Map the System competition empowers students and educators to approach social and environmental issues using systems thinking, offering participants a chance to enhance their research and problem-solving skills. This is the seventh year that the Centre for Peace Advancement has facilitated this opportunity at the University of ݮƵ.

Reflecting on Peace Week 2024

Peace Week 2024 has come to a close. This year, community partners hosted 30 impactful events, including provoking art exhibits, engaging discussions, awareness walks, theatre productions, music festivals and workshops across the ݮƵ Region. Take a closer look at some of the events and the impact they have had on the community.

Rachel Jenson, Faculty Relations Manager, from Co-operative and Experiential Education (CEE), presented Laurel Boytim, Executive Director of The Ripple Effect Education (TREE) in the Centre for Peace Advancement, with the 2023 CEE Employer Impact Award. TREE was awarded honorable mention for the Impact on Equity, Diversity and Inclusion category. This award recognizes leadership in EDI and highlights the importance of connecting students to meaningful co-op experiences. Of the 7,000+ employers that hire UW co-op students, TREE is among a small handful of employers receiving this designation.
