The old MSD Prevention Guideline

The Ontario MSD Prevention Guideline and Toolbox, developed by the Ontario Health and Safety System, wasÌýrecognized as a key resource for MSD Prevention. It was originally developed under the auspices of the Occupational Safety and Health Council of Ontario (OSHCO) in 2005-2006. Building on this previous work by the Ontario Health and Safety System, CRE-MSD led a multi-stakeholder initiative to redevelop the Guideline duringÌý2016-2018.

The redeveloment process

CRE-MSD led a multi-stakeholder initiative to redevelop the Guideline duringÌý2016-2018. The overall goals of this intiative were to:

  • Evaluate the old Guideline, determine workplaces’ needs for prevention, and synthesize best practices with respect to MSD prevention
  • Develop the new Guideline content and selected materials
  • Test the content of the new Guideline and materials with workplaces

A collaborative approach was used to engage and work with a wide range ofÌýstakeholders including: workers and workers’ representatives, employers and employers’ representatives, the Ontario Health and Safety System, sectoral industrial and business associations, the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development (MLTSD), ergonomists, health and safetyÌýconsultants, and researhcers.

The redevelopedÌýÌýwas released in 2018 and is now available online.
