Senior Data Analyst

Background

The (RIA) is a charitable non-profit organization that partners with the University of À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ, Conestoga College, and Schlegel Villages to enhance care and quality of life for older adults. Through engagement with key partners and collaborators, RIA supports practice relevant research and knowledge mobilization. Research evidence is used to inform programs, education and training, and influence practice and policy.

RIA’s research department is a dynamic, collaborative, and impact-focused portfolio. The department is responsible for research, evaluation and knowledge mobilization projects that embrace partnerships with researchers, people with lived experience, and sector organizations. The department is deeply committed to collaboration, responsiveness, and real-world application of evidence. In collaboration with other RIA departments, the research department works across disciplines to support system-level change in aging, seniors care, and seniors’ health and well-being.

Primary Purpose

The Senior Data Analyst is a self-motivated and detail-oriented leader who will drive the data analysis strategy and execution for research and evaluation projects. This role requires strong analytical expertise, proficiency in advanced software, and the ability to guide data-driven insights to inform decision-making for both technical and non-technical partners. The Senior Data Analyst will lead and collaborate with RIA researchers, team members and partners across all phases of research and evaluation initiatives, from conceptualization to dissemination, ensuring rigorous methodology and high-quality outputs.

Key Accountabilities

  1. Analysis Design and Data Management: Develop and implement analysis plans to align with research and evaluation project outcomes.Ìý Responsible for the maintenance and security of data, codebooks, files and other supporting documentation. Develops a deep understanding of available data and systems and applies current trends and methodologies in aging research and evaluation. Able to appropriately document data cleaning, analysis and processes for all projects in a way that is reproducible and transparent. Contribute expertise to grant proposal development.
  2. Data Analysis: Collect, clean, validate, analyze and manage quantitative and qualitative data. Ability to identify patterns, interpret results, and draw meaningful conclusions from data. Problem-solving mindset, including identifying opportunities for improvement and providing data-backed recommendations to apply a range of analytical techniques.
  3. Communication and Reporting: Contribute significantly to the creation and editing of written reports, policy briefs, presentations, and publications. Prepare high quality visuals and communication products for diverse audiences. Be able to present and explain findings effectively to a variety of internal and external audiences, as needed.Ìý Actively contribute to meeting discussions by providing data-driven insights to inform decision-making.
  4. Teamwork: Work closely with a variety of internal and external partners on a variety of projects to support project outcomes. Provide leadership and mentorship to project teams to support their understanding of data analysis. Actively participate in team and organizational-wide meetings in-person and virtually.
  5. Other: Take on a variety of RIA projects and activities, as they arise.

Position Requirements

Education:

Master’s degree or equivalent experience in computer science, epidemiology, statistics, mathematics, health sciences, or other relevant discipline.Ìý

Skills and Experience:

  • A minimum of 3 years experience leading analysis of applied research and/or evaluation projects.
  • Proficient in synthesizing, interpreting and communicating complex data findings.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities.
  • Proficient in producing documentation to support data, including codebooks, user guides, etc.
  • Proficiency in at least one, typically R or Python, for data manipulation, analysis, and statistical modelling.
  • Experience designing and conducting mixed-methods analysis, including integrating quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Strong understanding of research ethics, data privacy, and secure data handling practices.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for reporting, proposals, meetings and presentations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with internal and external partners.
  • Highly motivated, detail-oriented individual with the ability to multitask, prioritize, and meet tight deadlines and manage change within a high demand environment.
  • Experienced at agenda setting and driving and participating in collaborative decision-making.
  • Knowledge about the senior living sector is an asset.
  • Proficiency in the use of computers and various software applications including, Google Workspace, and Microsoft Office.

Additional Requirements:

  • Fluency in English. Fluency in French is an asset but not required.
  • Must have a valid driver’s licence and be available for occasional travel.
  • Eligible to obtain a clear police background and record check.
  • Eligible to work in Canada.

Scope of Work

  • Interpersonal Skills: Communicates effectively with internal team members and external partners; professionally represents the RIA in all communications and at events.
  • Level of Responsibility: Responsible for giving leadership to effective and efficient development and implementation of analysis plans in alignment with the goals and objectives.
  • Decision-Making Authority: Responsible for the day-to-day execution of analysis and supporting project and research-department strategic decision-making.Ìý
  • Physical and Sensory Demands: Minimal demands, typical of a position operating within an office environment; periods of extensive sitting at a desk and in meetings and concentrated use of visual senses; substantial repetitive keyboard/mouse movement; high sensory demands because of required concentration and attentiveness to detail and regular distractions and interruptions.
  • Working Environment: Much of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position with frequent opportunities to move about. The office is located in a comfortable indoor area and options for hybrid work are available for this position. The work is varied and assignments may change frequently. Work will involve regular interaction with RIA team members and external partners and collaborators. There are deadline pressures, while at the same time there is a demand for thoroughness and accuracy. Occasional travel is required.

Postdoctoral Scholar – Biomedical Signal Analysis and Assisted Diagnosis

Position Summary:

We invite applications for aÌýPostdoctoral ScholarÌýposition in the exciting interdisciplinary field of biomedical signal processing and assisted diagnosis. The successful candidate will lead and contribute to research at the intersection of biosensing, medical imaging, and AI-driven diagnostics. This position offers a unique opportunity to work with a collaborative team on translating complex bioanalytical data into meaningful clinical insights and delivering innovative healthcare solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and interpret biosensing signals, includingÌýelectrochemical sensing dataÌý(CV, EIS), physiological waveforms (e.g., ECG, EEG), and imaging data (e.g., MRI, CT, ultrasound).
  • Develop and apply algorithms forÌýassisted diagnosis, incorporating machine learning and data-driven approaches.
  • Preprocess, extract, and classify features from multi-modal datasets to support diagnostic applications.
  • Collaborate with clinicians and experimental researchers to validate methods and assess clinical relevance.
  • Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at leading scientific conferences.
  • Support grant writing and mentor graduate students as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. awarded after September 1, 2022, in Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Health Informatics, Statistics, Applied Math, or a related discipline.
  • Experience working with clinical datasets or in translational research environments with knowledge of clinical data storage and management, and standards for structured health information.
  • strong background and demonstrated experience in machine learning and AI tools.
  • Demonstrated experience inÌýassisted or automated diagnostic systemsÌýusing machine learning or AI tools.
  • Proficiency in processing and interpreting sensing data, medical images and physiological signals (e.g., ECG, EEG).
  • Skilled in programming (Python, MATLAB, R, or similar) and data visualization.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong publication record in high-impact biomedical or engineering journals.
  • Knowledge of data security frameworks and experience with cloud deployment in healthcare environments.
  • Familiarity with regulatory, privacy, and ethical considerations in healthcare data analysis.
