Overview
The Centre for Career Development (CCD) is hiring career leaders to provide one-on-one employment support to À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ students. We invite applications from upper-year undergraduate and graduate students in all University of À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ programs.Â
Career leaders in this student-facing role support students who are applying for work or volunteer positions, including co-op positions. Career leaders will attend to students' questions and concerns about searching, applying and interviewing for work or volunteer opportunities.Â
Qualifications
Essential skills
- Passion for supporting students in navigating employment in post-secondary
- Empathetic, active listening skills
- Ability to engage in non-judgemental, supportive conversations, centring on the student’s agency and point-of-view
- Knowledge and understanding of how identity can shape someone’s experience
- Knowledge and interest in mental health and equity
- Enthusiasm for continuous learning and growth
- Comfort with making decisions based on nuanced and sometimes ambiguous information
- Basic research and information-gathering skills
- Registered University of À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ student status (full or part-time)
Helpful skills
- Basic counselling skills (e.g., active listening, nonjudgmental approach, etc.)
- One-on-one advising, coaching or tutoring experience
- Mental health training or knowledge
Job duties:
Student support
- Provide support and guidance to students via flexible drop-in format ( i.e., 20-minute virtual appointments booked on a same-day basis)
- Identify the needs and wants of students you are working with, taking their lead in navigating their concerns
- Teach basic research skills for a wide range of employment options
- Coach on application and interview conventions for a wide range of employment options
- Help students navigate feelings of anxiety, overwhelm, nervousness and insecurity
- Support students in reflecting on their experiences and identifying their strengths
- Facilitate goal identification and articulation
Administrative tasks
- Monitor intake systems for same-day student drop-in bookings
- Effectively refer students to appointments with career advisors and other CCD services
- Learn about resources and supports offered at the University of À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ and in our community and refer students to them when applicable

Time commitment
- One-term commitment (Fall 2025 term) from early September to late OctoberÂ
- Career leaders can expect to be scheduled for 1–8 hours of work per week in September, and 1–3 hours of work per week in October
- In order to ensure coverage for drop-in shifts, applicants invited to an interview will be asked to confirm availability for a  minimum of 8 1-hour shifts per week in September, and 5, 1-hour shifts in October. Shift times are indicated on the timetable document (PDF)
- Flexibility to work additional hours outside of the drop-in schedule between September and October (we will work around individual schedules): 2.5 hours of team meetings, up to 1.5 hours of 1:1 coaching from your supervisor, up to 2.5 hours of CCD event support
- Mandatory training period: must be available to attend up to 16 hours of paid virtual training between Monday, August 25 and Friday, August 29, 2025. Training will take place during the day between the hours of 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
