Systems Design Engineering (SYDE) and Biomedical Engineering (BME) welcomed incoming undergraduate students with First Year Design Dayz.

SYDE and BME students kicked off their undergraduate degree programs with Design Dayz, a department orientation tradition in its sixth year. Each Design Dayz offers new activities, with the core goals of community building, teamwork, and design culture.

Biomedical Engineering (BME) graduate and Systems Design Engineering (SYDE) PhD student Ryan Tennant developed an app to improve workflow in vaccine clinics.

À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ’s undergraduate Biomedical Engineering (BME) program is establishing an external advisory committee. We are seeking nominations for members who are clinicians or professionals in the biomedical industry. Our preference is that members are external to the University of À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ, however we may consider internal members at arms-length to the BME program.

The main commitment would be to attend an annual retreat and give detailed feedback on the program at that time.

Sophie Stupalo, second year Biomedical Engineering student, has won the prestigious Canadian Engineering Memorial Foundation (CEMF) regional ambassador scholarship for Ontario.

The award, valued at $5,000, honours young women in undergraduate engineering programs in five regions across Canada for their leadership and volunteer work.

An undergraduate student at À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ Engineering made an impressive mark in a high-tech area of 3D printing during a co-op work term last year.

Kayley Ting, who is studying biomedical engineering, worked with experts at the National Research Council (NRC) of Canada to solve a messy problem in tomographic 3D printing, which involves the use of light to create objects from photocurable resin in vials.

CJ Moore Memorial Scholarship

Colton James (CJ) Moore was a fourth-year Biomedical Engineering student and was pursuing his dream to dive at the Olympics. His ultimate goal was to become a teacher.  CJ’s life was tragically taken in the summer of 2018.  While at the University of À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ, CJ successfully balanced the requirements of his engineering courses and training as a competitive diver. He was a great student to teach.  Despite his busy schedule, CJ was always there for his friends and classmates, he took the time and listened.  CJ was kind, humble and compassionate.

The department of Systems Design Engineering is pleased to announce that the Biomedical Engineering undergraduate program received a 3-year accreditation, the maximum time for a new engineering program, in June 2019.
