Solidago tardaÌýMackenzie ex Small is a hexaploid (2n=54) member of theÌýS. argutaÌýcomplex . It occurs in more xeric environments thanÌýS.ÌýargutaÌýand is found mostly on coastal plains. The populations are scattered in two disjunct areas, one centering on New Jersey and the other in the southeastern U.S. The basal leaves are truncate, and the plants are rhizomatous (). The species was found to be morphological close toÌýS. ludovicianaÌýin a multivariate analysis ofÌýS. sect.ÌýArgutaeÌý(Semple et al. 2021). Semple and Morton (2024) presented a map of the cytogeography ofÌýS. tarda with 6x counts from New Jersey, Georgia, and Alabama.
