Galatella

The genus Galatella Cass. includes about 25 species native to Europe and Asia. The ray florets are sterile and range from pink to red and various shades of violet, blue and purple.  All species have a chromosomal base number of x = 9.  One cultivar is available in North America and sold as Aster sedifolius cv. "nanus" (Galatella punctata) and is illustrated here.  This has small resin pits on its leaves similar to those seen in leaves of Chrysothamnus and some Euthamia, but not on the leaves of North American asters.
