Solidago rigidaÌý²õ²õ±è.Ìýrigida is distinquished by its glabrate to sparsely strigillose, oblong and rounded inner phyllaries (). The subspecies is similar to S. rigidaÌý²õ³Ü²ú²õ±è.Ìýhumilis.  It occurs on prairies, glades, oak savannas, dry open areas especially on calcareous soils, disturbed grounds (railroads, etc.) from Minnesota to New England south to Texas and scattered south to North Carolina further east (see map S. rigida). The subspecies is tetraploid (2n=36) throughout its range with a few diploids (2n=18) reported from Oklahoma.
