Solidago orientalis (Nesom) Nesom is native to eastern Mexico. It is similar to S. wrightii but has stem leaves that are serrate and phyllaries that tend to be broader. Nesom originally describe the species as a variety of S. wrightii. The chromosome number is unknown.

Solidago orientalis was included in a multivariate study of Solidago ²õ³Ü²ú²õ±ð³¦³Ù.ÌýThyrsiflorae and found to be statistically distinct (Semple et al. 2017).  Solidago orientalis ²¹²Ô»åÌýS. buckleyi are the only two species in the subsection that consistently have well developed serrations on lower and middle stem leaves.
