Kirsten Morris has been elected chair of theÌýSociety for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) Activity Group on Control and Systems Theory for 2018-2019. ÌýÌýThis SIAM Activity Group fosters collaboration and interaction among mathematicians, engineers, and other scientists in those areas of research related to the theory of systems and their control. The SIAG organizes the biennialÌý, sponsors minisymposia at SIAM meetings and periodic conferences, and maintains a member directory, an electronic newsletter, and an electronic discussion group. Every two years, the activity group also awards theÌýÌýto a young researcher for outstanding research contributions to mathematical control or systems theory and theÌýÌýto the author(s) of the two most outstanding papers published in theÌýSIAM Journal on Control and OptimizationÌý(SICON).
