Black and Indigenous scholars will have new opportunities to advance their research thanks to a commitment of $388,000 to expand the prestigious AMTD À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ Global Talent Postdoctoral Fellowship Program.

Established by Dr. Calvin Choi (BA ’01, LLD ’21) and the AMTD Charity Foundation in 2019, the $3.4 million program supports emerging global leaders whose research has the potential to dramatically improve society and contribute positively to the world. The fellowship includes a $75,000 annual salary, plus additional funds to engage with communities inside and outside of academia.

This past weekend, more than 1,000 people flooded the University of À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ campus to meet with old friends, celebrate milestone anniversaries and see how our institution has changed. The weekend included multiple events, hosted by Alumni Relations, Faculties, Schools, University Colleges and alumni volunteers.

Since 1975, Kitchener-À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ Oktoberfest has recognized the achievements of hundreds of local women with the . In 2023, multiple University of À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ alumni and students were nominated as exceptional women in our community. Two alumni and two current students were among the award recipients.

On June 28, 2023, two weeks after we recorded this episode, the University of À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ was confronted by a hate-motivated, violent attack. A professor and two students in the Philosophy 202/Gender and Social Justice 222 course were attacked because they were exploring issues related to society and gender.  

As a community, we stand united against all forms of violence, hatred and bigotry. We are committed to fostering an inclusive, safe and welcoming environment for everyone.

University of À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ alumni volunteers are a group of people with vast skill sets, incredible passion and innovative minds who work to grow and inspire the future of À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ.

Memories of campus

If you were also a À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ student in the 1960s or 70s, you probably understand why. At that time, the Math and Computer building (MC) housed the largest computer in Canada, the IBM 360 Model 75. It was housed in the centre of MC, and any student or passerby could peer in through the windows to see its gigantic size.
