Parental Leave Session

Do you want to learn more about taking a parental leave as a grad student in Engineering?

Are you a supervisor who wants to learn more about supporting a student intending to take a parental leave?

The Women in Engineering Graduate committee is proud to present an information session on parental leave in grad school. The event will include information for both those interested in taking leaves, and those supporting students and post-docs taking leaves, like faculty members and research associates.

A GSPA representative was invited to present university guidance and resources available. Three other speakers will share their personal experiences: a supervisor and two grad students, one who took the leave and one who decided to not take it. Hear about what is expected from you, where to find support, and personal experiences both taking and returning from leave.

Breakout roundtable discussions about navigating leaves as a future parent, or as supervisor will provide opportunity for Q&A with our special guests.

Parenting is not gender-exclusive: all genders welcome.

When: Friday November 10th from 11:30-12:30pm

The WiE Committee is hosting a Car Care Workshop with AutoCate, a company dedicated to educating and empowering car owners. Alongside AutoCate, participants will learn how to jump start a battery, check their oil, and learn the basic terminology of car functions. The in-person workshop is an opportunity to get some hands-on skills and leave the workshop with auto-confidence!

Do you own a car or planning to get one in the future? Do you know how to replace a flat tire? Do you ever get anxious about all the car jargon thrown at you when you're getting a car service? If you answered yes to any of these questions then this is the perfect workshop for you!

This workshop is an interactive and fun way to learn the basics about your car, what maintenance you can be doing to prolong the life of your car (and save money), how to talk to a mechanic, and what to do in an emergency.

Explore the exciting field of engineering! Go ENG Girl is an exciting opportunity for Grade 7 - 10 girls to visit the University of ��ݮ��Ƶ and learn about the wonderful world of engineering. Meet women currently studying engineering, learn about some of the amazing things women engineers are doing, and participate in a cool hands-on activity.

Tentative Agenda

9:00 am Registration (you will need to bring a complete waiver form to the event)	Engineering 5 foyer (located on the second floor). Follow Women in Engineering signs from the Q parking lot.
9:30 am Welcome and Keynote speaker	Location TBD
10:15 am Hands-on activity (for the girls) and 'Engaging Youth in STEM' (for parents/guardians)	Location TBD

Parking

Parking will be available at our Q lot. Registrants will receive a parking pass to print out and place on the front dash of the car. This lot is accessible from either Columbia St. or Philip St.

The lot is not clearly labelled, so please look for the Women in Engineering signs!

Registration for University of ��ݮ��Ƶ Go ENG Girl opens on August 26th! You can register on the ONWiE events page where there is a link to the registration system along with details on how to register. Or you can go right to the registration system if you already have an account!
