We are excited to announce that we’re hosting our annual What’s Next/ What Now Conference sponsored by Hydro-One! 🎉

ℹ️ About the Conference
This full day, in-person conference for first and upper year engineering students will showcase a variety of guest speakers and workshops focused on helping participants navigate through both student life and career preparation.

What's Next is for undergraduate students who have, at least, completed their second year of university with a goal of supporting the transition into their first full-time job/career.

What Now is geared toward supporting first year students transition from high school into their new undergraduate experience.

Registration

REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED FOR THE 2023 CONFERENCE.

Registration is free and available within the U��ݮ��Ƶ Engineering Outreach system. Please follow the steps below to register for the conference:

1. Create an account in our registration system under 'New user sign Up' with your name and preferred email for contact.

2. From the homepage, click the 'Start application' button under What's Next What Now Fall 2023.

3. On 'Step 1/6: Select People for Registration' choose your name, enter the required information and hit continue.

4. When entering grade, please enter your current University year (ie. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th).

5. Please select either the What's Next or What Now conference session and click Add to cart. You may only add one session per participant.

6. Under session options, you will be able to select which workshop options you are interested in participating in throughout the conference. Please note space is limited in each session and are spots are filled on a first come-first serve basis. We will do our best to accommodate your preference.

7.Fill out the required forms marked with a red asterisk.

8. Review your information to make sure it is accurate and confirm your registration.

9. That's it! You will receive a registration confirmation to the email connected to your registration account. Please make sure you have the wie@uwaterloo.ca email whitelisted to make sure you receive our emails.

We will follow up at a later date with additional conference details and everything you need to know to join us this Fall. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Join our WiE Hackathon! The point of this short hack is to practice iterating fast + rapid prototyping + learning how to work in a team under pressure + consuming lots of caffeine to get through it all. The scale and ideas would be smaller, but you'll still go through all the steps of a full hackathon! Bonus- you don't need to have any prior experience- so if you've always wanted to learn, this is your chance!

When: Saturday, November 12^th

Time: 9:00 AM– 10:00 pm

Where: Engineering 7 Building

Food: Breakfast, Lunch, dinner, snacks and COFFEE for all hackers!

Okay, I'm in! What do I need to do?

Sign up as an individual: To participate in the hackathon, you'll need to register yourself! Click the sign-up button below and get it done! You will put in a group decided by us.

Create your dream team: Grab 3 - 4 of your friends (min team size of 3, max team size of 4). Sign-up as an individual but make sure you get all your teammates to sign-up too, so we know how many participants are coming.

What if I don't have a team?

Don't worry, if you don't have a team, sign up as an individual anyway and we'll make sure you find an awesome team to join.

Team Rules

All Members need to fill out the registration form
Up to 4 members in total per team, minimum 3 in a group (if you can't meet the minimum group requirement, we will find someone for you)
Members can’t be a part of more than 1 team
If individuals don’t have a team, we will allocate

Project Rules

Code is written within the time frame allocated
No plagiarism is allowed
Cannot submit project started prior to the hackathon
Can use publicly available libraries/packages

What's Next/What Now (WNWN) Conference 2022

Women in Engineering at the University of ��ݮ��Ƶ is proud to host the What’s Next/ What Now (WNWN) Conference 2022 in-person this year on Saturday, October 1st, 2022 at the University of ��ݮ��Ƶ Main Campus. We will showcase a variety of professional and personal development workshops and empowering panel discussions focused on helping you navigate through both student life and career preparation. From planning out the next four years in undergrad to learning what to expect when you enter the workforce, this conference will help you gain the skills and knowledge needed to achieve your goals with confidence.

As part of Hydro One's Women in Engineering Consortium, we are pleased to invite women and non-binary students from the following universities: University of ��ݮ��Ƶ, Western University, Toronto Metropolitan and Ontario Tech University

The Conference is split into two streams:

What's Next stream is for undergraduate students who have at least completed their second year of university with a goal of supporting the transition into their first full-time job/career.
What Now stream is geared toward supporting first year and second year students transition from high school into their new undergraduate experience.

Please note: WNWN 2022 is exclusively for women or non-binary attendees, however, some men will be present in an organizational capacity.

Explore the exciting field of engineering! Go ENG Girl is an exciting opportunity for Grade 7 - 10 girls to visit the University of ��ݮ��Ƶ and learn about the wonderful world of engineering. Meet women currently studying engineering, learn about some of the amazing things women engineers are doing, and participate in a cool hands-on activity.

Tentative Agenda

9:00 am Registration (you will need to bring a complete waiver form to the event)	Engineering 5 foyer (located on the second floor). Follow Women in Engineering signs from the Q parking lot.

Parking

Parking will be available at our Q lot. Registrants will receive a parking pass to print out and place on the front dash of the car. This lot is accessible from either Columbia St. or Philip St.

The lot is not clearly labelled, so please look for the Women in Engineering signs!

WE Go.DEsign is a two day Engineering Design and Research Competition for women currently enrolled in grades 10 and 11 presented by the Goethe-Institut. The Grand Prize will be a language, engineering and culture trip to Germany during Summer 2017! There are two elements to the competition, a Research Symposium and a Design Challenge. Each element will be judged by Goethe-Institut and University of ��ݮ��Ƶ faculty and staff, with prizes awarded in each element.
