You are invited to a workshop discussing the Gender Differences in À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ Graduate Engineering Student Experience, on January 25, 2021, from 1-4:30pm (ET). All genders are encouraged to participate. <p> <img alt="<--break->" src="/engineering/profiles/uw_base_profile/modules/contrib/wysiwyg/plugins/break/images/spacer.gif" />Featuring a keynote presentation by Mary Wells, PhD, Dean of Engineering at the University of À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ, the workshop will follow up on a survey distributed to University of À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ graduate students during Fall 2019 - Winter 2020. The purpose of this workshop is to share the results of this survey, and to discuss methods and next steps to enhance the graduate engineering student experience. Breakout groups will discuss topics such as student support and resource availability, among other themes. </p><p> This workshop is hosted by an interdisciplinary team of researchers from the University of À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ and York University. Our joint team has been investigating gender differences in engineering for the past few years, focusing on strategies for improving student retention. </p><p> If you’re interested in participating, <a href="https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/gender-differences-in-waterloo-graduate-engineering-student-experiences-registration-127224113749"> sign up</a>. This workshop will be held virtually in English with joining instructions provided to the participants closer to the workshop date via email. </p><p> The survey and this workshop were funded by a University of À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ Gender Equity Research Grant as part of the University of À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ’s HeForShe IMPACT 10x10x10 initiative.</p> </div> </div> </div> </div> </section> Fri, 08 Jan 2021 20:42:48 +0000 Valerie Pablo 676 at /systems-design-engineering From Silos to Synergy /systems-design-engineering/events/silos-synergy <span class="field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden">From Silos to Synergy</span> <span class="field field--name-uid field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden"><span lang="" about="/systems-design-engineering/users/engavco1" typeof="schema:Person" property="schema:name" datatype="" content="engavco1" xml:lang="">Engineering Ad…</span></span> <span class="field field--name-created field--type-created field--label-hidden">Tue, 11/17/2020 - 11:51</span> <section class="uw-section-spacing--default uw-section-separator--none uw-column-separator--none layout layout--uw-1-col uw-contained-width"><div class="layout__region layout__region--first"> <div class="block block-layout-builder block-inline-blockuw-cbl-copy-text"> <div class="uw-copy-text"> <div class="uw-copy-text__wrapper "> <p> </p><div class="uw-media media media--type-uw-mt-image media--view-mode-uw-vm-standard-image align-center" data-width="500" data-height="250"> <img src="/systems-design-engineering/sites/default/files/uploads/images/https_cdn.evbuc_.com_images_117864289_337169631957_1_original.20201116-201152.jpg" width="500" height="250" alt="From Silos to Synergy, Presenters: Rob Horne, Michael Murray" loading="lazy" typeof="foaf:Image" /></div> <p> How cities develop and function is the endeavor of engineers and planners, among others, however, students and faculty in these two disciplines often have limited opportunity to work and study collaboratively. At the University of À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ, we are fortunate to have a Planner- in-Residence and an Engineer-in-Residence who bring industry perspectives to curricular activities in the School of Planning and in Civil and Environmental Engineering, respectively. Both experts believe in the advantages of collaboration and interdisciplinary for the benefit of our cities and urban prosperity. This session is a first step toward bridging the two disciplines further, highlight examples of the shortfalls of working in disciplinary silos and the benefits of synergy among planners and engineers. </p><p> Speakers:<br /> Rob Horne, MA, RPP, Planner-in-Residence, School of Planning<br /> Michael Murray, M.Eng., P.Eng., Douglas Wright Engineer-in-Residence, Civil and Environmental Engineering </p><p> Moderators:<br /> Nadine Ibrahim, PhD, Turkstra Chair in Urban Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering<br /> Markus Moos, PhD, RPP, Director and Associate Professor, School of Planning</p> </div> </div> </div> </div> </section> Tue, 17 Nov 2020 16:51:07 +0000 Engineering Advancement Coop 673 at /systems-design-engineering Game Night + Design Showcase /systems-design-engineering/events/game-night-design-showcase <span class="field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden">Game Night + Design Showcase </span> <span class="field field--name-uid field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden"><span lang="" about="/systems-design-engineering/users/engavco1" typeof="schema:Person" property="schema:name" datatype="" content="engavco1" xml:lang="">Engineering Ad…</span></span> <span class="field field--name-created field--type-created field--label-hidden">Mon, 03/02/2020 - 10:33</span> <section class="uw-section-spacing--default uw-section-separator--none uw-column-separator--none layout layout--uw-1-col uw-contained-width"><div class="layout__region layout__region--first"> <div class="block block-layout-builder block-inline-blockuw-cbl-copy-text"> <div class="uw-copy-text"> <div class="uw-copy-text__wrapper "> <p class="MsoPlainText"> Have fun at the Global Engineering Week Game Night!
