February is Carpool Month in ��ݮ��Ƶ Region. While the weather might be cold and the days are still short, carpooling can be a fun way to lower the impact of your commute to and from the campus. Plus, you'll save money and can make new friends.

The TravelWise program at the Region of ��ݮ��Ƶ has organized a series of challenges throughout February to encourage you to give carpooling a try, or keep at it if you carpool already!

How to join

You can join in the carpool month challenge and enter to win cool prizes by completing one of the following activities:

Register on the TravelWise website to be entered into a draw for $100 in Downtown Dollars.
Post your carpool ride on the TravelWise website to be entered into a draw for $150 in Downtown Dollars
Log a carpool trip on the TravelWise website to be entered to win a $50 Canadian Tire gas card
Tweet or email a selfie of you and your carpool buddies using #CarpoolWR to be entered into a draw for $40 Tim Hortons gift cards.

To get started, click on the link below to join the University of ��ݮ��Ƶ's user group for students or employees. Once you are registered, you can log in from any computer or mobile phone by visiting gotravelwise.ca

Other resources for employees

Emergency Ride Home: Carpool partner had to leave early? Did you have to stay late and missed your ride? Did your kids get sick at school and you have to pick them up? Don't worry, you're covered! Through the TravelWise program, employees at ��ݮ��Ƶ can access an emergency ride home program that will reimburse you up to $75 per trip, up to 4 times per year, to get home or elsewhere if you carpooled to work (or walked, biked, or bussed).

Carpool parking: Employees can also access preferred parking spaces if you register as a carpool group of 2 or more. If you regularly travel with a co-worker, sign up for preferential parking through Parking Services!

It's Carpool Month! The winter may be dreary, but you can revitalize your commute by carpooling throughout February. Complete the weekly challenges to be entered into fun prize draws through Travelwise.

Week 1: February 1 -5

Post your route online to see if there is someone near you that may be able to carpool. You never know who you might find! You'll be entered into a draw for $25 gift card just for posting.

To post a carpool:

Register on gotravelwise.ca with your @uwaterloo.ca email address
Join the Student or Employee user group for ��ݮ��Ƶ
Type in your starting address and destination and click "Let's Go"
Click "Post your own carpool" and customize your preferences

Week 2: February 8-12

Once you form a carpool, share your success! Log your carpool trips throughout the week for a chance to win a Samsung tablet!

To log your trips:

Log into gotravelwise.ca
Select your dates of travel on the calendar and record your carpooling trips.
See all your stats for fuel savings and greenhouse gas reductions.

Week 3: February 15-19

They say pictures speak 1,000 words. Or in this case, they can complement 142 characters! Take a selfie of your carpool for a chance to win a $25 Tim Hortons gift card.

To post a selfie:

Strike a pose and click! If you're a driver, keep those hands on the wheel and wait till you've stopped safely!
Post to twitter using the hashtag #CarpoolSelfieWR

Week 4: February 22 - 26

Had fun? Learned something new? Have advice for others? Share your carpooling stories from the month with TravelWise for a chance to win a FitBit Flex and help others carpool too!

To submit your story:

Type up your experience in 100-200 words
Email to travelwise@regionofwaterloo.ca by the end of the week

Sustainable ��ݮ��Ƶ Region is hosting David Paterson, Vice President Corporate and Environmental Affairs from General Motors Canada, for a discussion of how General Motors prioritizes environmental sustainability in in their facility operations. David also provide insight about how sustainability is impacting their business model.

avid is also currently Chair of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce. and has served on the boards of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce and the Canadian Journalism Foundation. He has held Government Relations and Public Affairs at BlackBerry and Manulife.

As part of Science Literacy Week across Canada, the University of ��ݮ��Ƶ, in partnership with the Kitchener Public Library, invites you to a timely public lecture discussing Transportation with two leading researchers. Jeff Casello from the School of Planning and Civil and Environmental Engineering, and David Hawthorn from Physics and Astronomy will share their insights on public transportation planning and new technologies.

As conversations on the topic continue to expand, these experts will explore ��ݮ��Ƶ’s several methods of transportation, including the technology behind superconducting trains, and the implications that could arise from increasing the sophistication of transportation in our city.
