Presented by Co-operators, the uXperience Design Jam is back for Spring 2025!

This time, we're focusing in on Omnichannel Opportunities. Help reimagine how we can find opportunities and build trust—online, offline, and everywhere in between. This Design Jam runs from June 13th - 20th, starting asynchronously from June 13th - 19th, then in-person on June 20th for final prep and presentations to the Co-operators judging team.

This Design Jam is exclusively open to University of ��ݮ��Ƶ students.

June 13-19 - Asynchronous Design Jam

Grab your team and get started!

On Friday, June 13th, you'll receive your project package along with any group information and assets you may need. Start developing your project from the ground up, and get support along the way.

Remote mentorship will be available with the Co-operators team on Tuesday, June 17th & Wednesday, June 18th. More details to follow.

June 20th - In-Person Final Prep, Presentations, and Networking

On Friday, June 20th, we'll all get together at the Stratford School for one final day of project prep, mentoring, and pitches in front of attendees and the Co-operators team.

Need a ride? We've got you covered!

Free round-trip transportation is available from the ��ݮ��Ƶ campus to the Stratford School. Busses will depart and return at the ��ݮ��Ƶ campus on Ring Road near Hagey Hall. Busses leave to Stratford at 8:00 am, and will arrive in ��ݮ��Ƶ at approximately 4:00 pm.

Velocity is proud to present an event which will take place over two lunch hours for GBDA and students at the University of ��ݮ��Ƶ Stratford School of Interaction Design and Business. You will have the opportunity to form teams and get creative with using Virtual Reality (VR) programs to elevate your UI/UX skills.

On day one, teams of 3-4 will use VR platforms to better understand what design and technical components go into creating a VR program. You will start to think of a concept and storyboard idea that relates to a social cause such as women’s health, climate change, world poverty, etc. and have the night to work on them.

On day two, teams will come back together to finalize their storyboards and come up with a 3-minute presentation to the room explaining their concept and talk through your design process.

Building Equitable and Sustainable Game Development Education - Workshop

With recent waves of layoffs, high-profile workplace harassment cases, and a notoriously short career length for gender minorities and people of colour, the transition of new workers into the game industry involves navigating a spate of barriers to equity and success that have been understudied in academic research. The First Three Years is an ongoing longitudinal study of graduates of game programs in Canada and the United States, following the journey of 207 students as they move into the game industry. In this workshop, our research team will summarise the primary challenges students have identified in their game programs. This summary includes equity and diversity issues inherent in common curricular practices such as the efficacy of capstone courses and internships, the inclusion of crunch-like practices in the classroom, the systematic failure to inform students of actual workplace conditions, and the mismatch between student preparation and industry hiring practices. Afterwards, participants will address whether/how these problems manifest in their own institutions, and what solutions might improve equity outcomes for students seeking careers in games.??

This event is part of the “ADE for Game Communities: Enculturing Anti-Racism, Decolonization, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (ADE) in Games Research and Creation” series from the ADE Committee of the Games Institute, University of ��ݮ��Ƶ, and is supported in part by funding from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council.

This event will be held in a HYBRID format. Please join us in-person at the Games Institute, EC1 on the University of ��ݮ��Ƶ campus or online through Microsoft Teams.

Across digital media, Black people are portrayed in ways that are derogatory, inaccurate, stereotypical, demeaning, and otherwise harmful. And Black culture is often depersonalized and extracted from Black bodies. Through projects like ‘Ye or Nay? and the Open-Source Afro Hair Library, artist A.M. Darke reimagines the construction and consumption of Black bodies in virtual space, discussing critical approaches to portraying Blackness in games and virtual space.

These events are lectures, panels and workshops hosted by a variety of researchers across the globe, discussing themes related to decolonization, equity, accessibility and diversity in games and game communities.

Open to all UW Stratford Campus students, regardless of technical background. NO TECHNICAL BACKGROUND REQUIRED! Join us in this rapid version of a creative hackathon where participants will be teamed up at the event and work together to ideate, research and brainstorm solutions to problems in a surprise creative problem space all in 2-hours. Present your 3-minute pitch of a solution and you could win some great prizing if you’re selected as people’s choice vote.
