A specific spike protein enables this virus to\nbind to human cells\, and a thorough understanding of its 3-dimension al\nstructure is therefore critical for developing effective therapeutic\n interventions. However\, its structure may continue to evolve over time\na s a result of mutations. We take a data science perspective to study\nthe potential structural impacts due to ongoing mutations in its amino\nacid s equence. To do so\, we identify a key segment of the protein and\napply a sequential Monte Carlo sampling method to detect possible\nchanges to the space of low-energy conformations for different amino\nacid sequences. Suc h computational approaches can further our\nunderstanding of this importan t protein structure and complement\nlaboratory efforts.\n\nPLEASE NOTE: T his talk will be given through Microsoft Teams.
