Indigenous History and Pride Month

Indigenous History and Pride Month

Two MSW students from the Netherlands did a placement exchange at Renison, uÀ¶Ý®ÊÓƵ this past month. With Elder Myeengun Henry, they helped to raise a tipi that will remain on the uÀ¶Ý®ÊÓƵ campus grounds for this month, for contemplation, dialogue, and shared learning.

It is also Pride month, and we are reminded of the ways in which colonization has harmed across intersections of identity and experience, so that we must interrogate the colonial structures that create and reproduce racism, sexism, classism, ableism, and cisheteropartiarchy. As social workers, we are called to challenge the colonial production of inequity. We are called to centre land using principles of care, community, relationship, and consent, to embrace the equal value of all life, to delight in the possibilities that come with interconnection, and to find hope and inspiration in the brilliance of the resistance and imagination of this land and its first peoples.
