Although thi s embedding is only\ncontinuous\, not a homeomorphic embedding\, we can ac tually characterize\nthe topology inherited from the homeomorphism group i ntrinsically\,\nonly in terms of the prespace. Using this characterization we show\nthat not all homeomorphisms are conjugate to an automorphism\, a nd we\ngive a second proof to Kwiatkowska's conjecture\, namely that there \nexists a homeomorphism with a dense conjugacy class.\n\nThis is joint wo rk with S.
