The School of Planning is pleased to announce a new administrative role and Mark Seasons has kindly agreed to undertake the responsibilities of Associate Director, Professional Practice. This role will support building and maintaining strong relationships with the Planning profession in addition to other relevant stakeholders.

Mark will work to identify opportunities, liaise with stakeholders, and take initiative in the following areas: 

The School of Planning is pleased to announce our Planner-in-Residence for the 2022-2023 academic year is Becca Nagorsky. She will deliver PLAN 403 in the winter term to our 4th year undergraduate students and interact with the School community in various other ways throughout the year.

Moving to Canada comes with challenges, such as not being able to find work. On Tuesday July 26, Dr. Jennifer Dean, Associate Professor in the School of Planning, was featured in a brief clip on CTV news, and says this is common for newcomers due to lack of recognition of foreign credentials. She mentions that Canadian businesses prefer experiences in the workforce in Canada and this of course, is a challenge for newcomers to the country who do not have this experience.

On Wednesday, June 22^nd, Dr. Dawn Parker, Professor in the School of Planning, was featured in Kitchener City News: “UW researchers received funding to investigate lack of family-sized apartment housing in region.”

On Wednesday, June 22^nd, Dr. Jeremy Pittman, Associate Professor in the School of Planning, was appointed as a member of new federal Nature Advisory Committee (NAC), created by Environment and Climate Change Canada to foster ways for Canadians to engage positively with our natural environment.

Pragma Council was pleased to host its Spring conference at St. Paul University College on May 11, 2022, the first in person meeting since the beginning of the pandemic. It was incredible to see everyone back together again to discuss the event theme “We’ve declared a Climate Emergency. Now what?”

On Wednesday, March 23rd, Dr. Dawn Parker from the School of Planning was featured on CBC’s “The Morning Edition – K-W" with Craig Norris. In this interview, “What will it really take to build more affordable housing?”, Dr. Parker shares her thoughts on the 55 recommendations released by the Housing Affordability Task Force, which purport to curb soaring dwelling costs. 

The School of Planning has recently adopted a value statement on anti-racism, equity, diversity, inclusion that acts as a principled guide for the activities of the School and its members. The statement was produced in a collaborative effort, and our students played a leading role and integral part in its formulation over the past year and a half.
