Henry Smith Peace Oratorical Contest CLASS:PUBLIC DESCRIPTION:Summary \n\nThe annual C. Henry Smith Peace Oratorical Contest\ , established in\n1974 by the directors of the C. Henry Smith Trust\, offe rs Peace and\nConflict Studies (PACS) students and Grebel residents/assoc iates an\nopportunity to discuss peacebuilding and social justice issues o n\ncampus and beyond. The intercollegiate competition is administered by\n the Peace and Justice Ministries of the Mennonite Central Committee\n(MCC) . Undergraduate students from every Mennonite and Brethren in\nChrist coll ege in North America\, including Canada\, are eligible to\nparticipate.   \n\nHenry Smith was an American Mennonite historian and professor at\nMe nnonite colleges and the University of Chicago. Overall\, he taught\nhisto ry for nearly 50 years at the collegiate level. He is well-known\nfor his many books on Mennonite history and his attention to the peace\ncommitmen ts of the Mennonite tradition.   \n\nOn MARCH 12\, 2025\, FROM 7 PM TO 8 PM at Grebel\, the PACS Department\nand the Grebel Chaplaincy’s Offic es are organizing a speech\nperformance and inviting you to participate. T his year marks the 50th\nAnniversary of this peace speech competition\, an d for that reason\, we\nhave increased the cash prizes for the winners.
