As the availability grows, it becomes necessary to consider the long-term discovery, access, management, and local ownership issues inherent in the development and distribution of such collections. To address these issues, the University of ݮƵ Library created a localized repository dubbed the Online Learning Object Repository (OLOR), which meant to house and make discoverable library-created online learning objects for broad distribution, discovery, and reuse. This presentation will explore the challenges and successes we have had in moving forward with the OLOR at the center of our learning and teaching strategy, from inception pre-pandemic and soliciting buy-in from stakeholders and colleagues, through the launch of the repository to the continuing efforts to develop learning materials of use and interest to faculty, staff, and students across the University of ݮƵ community. </p><p> <b> Join on your computer, mobile app or room device</b> </p><p> <a href="https://teams.microsoft.com/l/meetup-join/19%3ameeting_ZjY4NGY5OTMtMDE5ZS00MDZhLTk1MjktYzcyNzRkZmM5ZjE2%40thread.v2/0?context=%7b%22Tid%22%3a%22723a5a87-f39a-4a22-9247-3fc240c01396%22%2c%22Oid%22%3a%225438b94c-f596-46b3-bd78-da4dfc2edab1%22%7d"> Click here to join the meeting</a></p> </div> </div> </div> </div> </section> Fri, 24 Feb 2023 18:52:56 +0000 Lauren Byl 137 at /open-scholarship Using PressBooks to Publish and Host your OER /open-scholarship/events/using-pressbooks-publish-and-host-your-oer <span class="field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden">Using PressBooks to Publish and Host your OER</span> <span class="field field--name-uid field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden"><span lang="" about="/open-scholarship/users/lrbyl" typeof="schema:Person" property="schema:name" datatype="" xml:lang="">Lauren Byl</span></span> <span class="field field--name-created field--type-created field--label-hidden">Fri, 02/24/2023 - 13:50</span> <section class="uw-section-spacing--default uw-section-separator--none uw-column-separator--none layout layout--uw-1-col uw-contained-width"><div class="layout__region layout__region--first"> <div class="block block-layout-builder block-inline-blockuw-cbl-copy-text"> <div class="uw-copy-text"> <div class="uw-copy-text__wrapper "> <p class="highlight"> <span> Speaker: Daniel Opperwall (online learning consultant, CEL)</span> </p><p> Do you have a great idea for an OER but need to find the right platform to build it? But I also wanted to "localize" the textbook - that is, create a resource that was situated in the actual course and which students would see was tailored to their learning. This textbook would need to do two things: acquaint students with world cinema while also introducing them to the analytical vocabulary and concepts used in cinema studies. </p><p> The first part of this presentation will outline the adaptation process in Pressbooks and the editorial considerations that come into play. In the second part, Zoë Carbone and Sabrina Romano, two students from the course, will be on hand to explain how we're working together to enhance the chapters I'm writing. Using their notes and ideas, we're incorporating their voices in those original chapters through chat dialogues and other interventions. We hope that by bringing the three of us into conversation with each other, the textbook will engage future students in a way rarely seen in course materials. </p><p> <b> Join on your computer, mobile app or room device</b> </p><p> <a href="https://teams.microsoft.com/l/meetup-join/19%3ameeting_MWE4YmU4ZmEtZjZkNS00MGRjLWEwODQtODFiZDA2Y2QxZDli%40thread.v2/0?context=%7b%22Tid%22%3a%22723a5a87-f39a-4a22-9247-3fc240c01396%22%2c%22Oid%22%3a%225438b94c-f596-46b3-bd78-da4dfc2edab1%22%7d"> Click here to join the meeting</a> </p><p> Meeting ID: 299 279 677 924<br /> Passcode: 2yX9xY </p><p> <a href="https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-teams/download-app"> Download Teams</a> | <a href="https://www.microsoft.com/microsoft-teams/join-a-meeting"> Join on the web</a> </p><p> <b> Or call in (audio only)</b> </p><p> <a href="tel:+12262436399,,147300818#"> +1 226-243-6399,,147300818#</a>   Canada, Kitchener-ݮƵ </p><p> <a href="tel:8338274832,,147300818#"> (833) 827-4832,,147300818#</a>   Canada (Toll-free) </p><p> Phone Conference ID: 147 300 818# </p><p> <a href="https://dialin.teams.microsoft.com/56d2b14a-6e2e-403a-ba3f-01bb56bf6b37?id=147300818"> Find a local number</a></p> </div> </div> </div> </div> </section> Fri, 24 Feb 2023 18:48:20 +0000 Lauren Byl 135 at /open-scholarship Traditional Knowledge and Biocultural Labels in Practice /open-scholarship/events/traditional-knowledge-and-biocultural-labels-practice <span class="field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden">Traditional Knowledge and Biocultural Labels in Practice</span> <span class="field field--name-uid field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden"><span lang="" about="/open-scholarship/users/lrbyl" typeof="schema:Person" property="schema:name" datatype="" xml:lang="">Lauren Byl</span></span> <span class="field field--name-created field--type-created field--label-hidden">Fri, 02/24/2023 - 13:43</span> <section class="uw-section-spacing--default uw-section-separator--none uw-column-separator--none layout layout--uw-1-col uw-contained-width"><div class="layout__region layout__region--first"> <div class="block block-layout-builder block-inline-blockuw-cbl-copy-text"> <div class="uw-copy-text"> <div class="uw-copy-text__wrapper "> <p class="highlight"> <span> Speakers: Leslie Wexler (senior educational developer, Indigenous Knowledges and anti-racist pedagogies, CTE), Benjamin Lefebvre (copy editor, CEL)</span> </p><p> As part of this presentation, we (Leslie and Benjamin) will share our journey in collaborating on the creation of TK and BC Labels and will consider how the University community can use this system moving forward, as a way to extend and in some cases supersede “standard” protocols related to copyright and fair dealing within an educational system.
